Lava heron on volcanic rock on Isabela Island, Galapagos, Ecuador

Discover the journey

Explore the Galapagos from distinct island bases on a ten-day journey beginning and ending in Quito. San Cristobal introduces the islands, followed by a boat connection through the Floreana corridor toward Isabela. Santa Cruz creates a final island chapter before the return to mainland Ecuador. Walking, coastal observation and possible water activities offer different ways to experience the landscape, with time to choose a few interests in each place. This is a land-based island route rather than a cruise. Flights, inter-island boats and protected-area access need coordinated arrangements, while marine conditions and personal preferences will shape the most suitable activities.

Day-by-day itinerary

This is a proposed itinerary. Daily plans and overnight areas can be adjusted before booking; your written proposal will confirm the final arrangements.

Day 1Begin in Quito

Arrive in Quito and keep the first day manageable, allowing time to settle in before the next day's proposed journey to the islands. Pack for the island baggage arrangement before departure.

Overnight area: Quito.

Day 2Fly toward San Cristobal

Travel to San Cristobal on the planned flight to the islands, then settle into the island base and consider a gentle local introduction.

Overnight area: San Cristobal Island.

Day 3San Cristobal exploration

Spend a full day on San Cristobal, choosing suitable coastal exploration and a possible guided boat or snorkeling activity according to conditions. Water conditions should decide the final marine activity.

Overnight area: San Cristobal Island.

Day 4Via Floreana to Isabela

Move through the Floreana corridor toward Isabela, treating the inter-island boat connection as a significant part of the day rather than a casual transfer. Do not attach a demanding outing after the crossing.

Overnight area: Isabela Island.

Day 5Isabela's coastal interests

Give Isabela a full day for selected coastal and water interests, leaving the choice of kayaking, snorkeling or walking subject to suitable local arrangements. A land-based alternative can remain part of the discussion.

Overnight area: Isabela Island.

Day 6Isabela inland choices

Use another day on Isabela for a possible inland or volcanic-landscape walk, matching the route and effort to current access and the traveler's preferences. Walking distance should be explicit before the day is confirmed.

Overnight area: Isabela Island.

Day 7Continue to Santa Cruz

Travel by the selected inter-island service toward Santa Cruz, leaving time to settle into the new base before adding any local walking.

Overnight area: Santa Cruz Island.

Day 8A day on Santa Cruz

Spend the day with Santa Cruz's nature and coastal interests, selecting a few useful visits rather than assuming every protected-area activity belongs in the itinerary. Visitor-site selection should follow current authorized access.

Overnight area: Santa Cruz Island.

Day 9Return to Quito

Return to the mainland on the planned flight and keep Quito's remaining time flexible after the island departure and airport transfers. The mainland night separates island and international travel.

Overnight area: Quito.

Day 10Finish in Quito

Finish in Quito after the island journey. An extension, departure transfer or onward flight can be arranged around the agreed mainland return.

Planning this journey

  • Coordinate mainland flights and inter-island boats, with luggage rules and alternatives for rough weather.

  • The journey uses island stays rather than a cruise; chosen hotels, rooms and meals will be specified in the quote.
