Discover the journey
Travel between Senegal and The Gambia through Atlantic cities, river landscapes and the Casamance coast. Dakar and Goree Island introduce the journey, followed by Saint Louis, the Touba corridor and Kaolack before the route crosses toward Banjul. Southern Senegal brings a coastal pause at Cap Skirring and a Ziguinchor chapter before the final night at Saly. Twelve days allow time for different local settings, with road and river connections woven through the route. Several international crossings are involved. Choose hosted visits with care, giving historical and religious places time and context rather than treating each stop as another sight to collect.

Day-by-day itinerary
This is a proposed itinerary. Daily plans and overnight areas can be adjusted before booking; your written proposal will confirm the final arrangements.
Day 1Start in Dakar
Arrive in Dakar and leave the evening flexible, using spare time for a gentle introduction to the Atlantic city and its food interests.
Overnight area: Dakar.
Day 2Dakar and Goree Island
Consider a city introduction and a ferry visit to Goree Island, allowing time for the island's difficult historical context rather than rushing between stops. The return ferry needs time within the day.
Overnight area: Dakar.
Day 3Toward Saint Louis
Travel north toward Saint Louis, using the change from Dakar to the river city as the main focus and keeping extra stops realistic.
Overnight area: Saint Louis.
Day 4River and wetland interests
Give the Saint Louis area another day for river or wetland exploration, choosing suitable boat access and leaving conditions to shape the visit. Birding and boat access can vary with conditions.
Overnight area: Saint Louis.
Day 5Via Touba toward Kaolack
Continue toward Kaolack with a possible Touba visit, approaching the religious setting respectfully and agreeing appropriate access and dress expectations in advance. A visit should follow the site’s current expectations.
Overnight area: Kaolack.
Day 6Cross toward Banjul
Cross toward The Gambia and continue to Banjul. Let border and ferry timings set a realistic pace, adding river or historical interests only where the day allows.
Overnight area: Banjul.
Day 7A day in Banjul
Spend time with Banjul's market and cultural interests, leaving room to explore at a considered pace rather than treating the city as a transfer stop. Local shopping can remain an independent choice.
Overnight area: Banjul.
Day 8Return to Senegal's south
Travel from Banjul into southern Senegal toward Cap Skirring, allowing the border and road conditions to determine how much visiting fits along the way. A second coastal night prevents another immediate move.
Overnight area: Cap Skirring.
Day 9A Cap Skirring pause
Keep a full day in Cap Skirring for the coast, with local wandering and a relaxed schedule providing a break between the longer road stages. This pause can stay deliberately unscheduled.
Overnight area: Cap Skirring.
Day 10Toward Ziguinchor
Continue toward Ziguinchor with a possible Djenbereng stop, discussing the nature and consent of any hosted cultural visit before it becomes part of the program. The host should decide what can appropriately be shared.
Overnight area: Ziguinchor.
Day 11Cross back toward Saly
Travel from Ziguinchor toward Saly through The Gambia corridor, explicitly allowing time for multiple crossings before the final coastal overnight. This is a road day with several formalities.
Overnight area: Saly.
Day 12Finish at Saly
Finish at Saly, with an extra coastal night if you would like more time beside the Atlantic. Arrange the onward Dakar connection or airport transfer to fit your agreed itinerary.

- Ferries, pirogues and wetland outings depend on conditions. Discuss life jackets, luggage handling and alternatives where relevant.
- Religious and community visits need local consent and appropriate conduct; access to ceremonies or sacred places is never assumed.
- Arrange the final Saly-to-airport connection alongside the road itinerary.
Questions about this journey
How should I plan the border crossings?
The route moves between Senegal and The Gambia more than once. Current entry arrangements, ferry timing and road stages need to work together before onward connections are fixed.
Can I request Group or Private travel?
You can indicate either preference in your inquiry. Your travel specialist will review the format, party size, preferred dates and available arrangements before preparing a quote.
What happens after I request a quote?
Your inquiry starts a discussion of your dates and preferences. You will review the itinerary, services and price before deciding whether to book; the inquiry itself does not reserve travel.
