Discover the journey
Connect Durban and Cape Town through mountain, highland and coastal landscapes over fourteen days. The Drakensberg and Lesotho provide an inland beginning before the route turns toward the Wild Coast at Cintsa. Addo brings a wildlife interest, followed by the forests and coast around Tsitsikamma and the changing scenery through Knysna and Oudtshoorn. A final Cape Town stay leaves time for selected city or coastal interests. This is a varied landscape journey with walking choices, rather than a series of compulsory long hikes. The Lesotho crossing and substantial drives need time of their own; balance outdoor activities with a comfortable road rhythm.

Day-by-day itinerary
This is a proposed itinerary. Daily plans and overnight areas can be adjusted before booking; your written proposal will confirm the final arrangements.
Day 1Arrival in Durban
Begin in Durban with a flexible first day, keeping any coastal or city exploration modest before the route turns inland the next morning. Save the more active walking for the mountain chapter.
Overnight area: Durban.
Day 2Into the Drakensberg
Travel inland toward the Drakensberg, considering a historical stop along the way while protecting enough time to settle into the mountain base. A historical stop should not compress the arrival.
Overnight area: Drakensberg.
Day 3Drakensberg walking choices
Give the Drakensberg a full day, selecting a walk that matches the desired effort and conditions rather than assuming a particular trail is suitable. A shorter alternative can serve the same landscape interest.
Overnight area: Drakensberg.
Day 4Cross toward Lesotho
Travel through the highland corridor toward Lesotho, giving the international crossing and changing mountain roads adequate space in the day's schedule. Keep paperwork accessible before reaching the border.
Overnight area: Lesotho Highlands.
Day 5A highland day in Lesotho
Spend another day in Lesotho's highland setting, choosing between a suitable walk and a locally arranged cultural interest to suit your interests.
Overnight area: Lesotho Highlands.
Day 6Continue toward Cintsa
Return toward South Africa and the Wild Coast at Cintsa, treating this as a substantial travel stage with a relaxed evening on arrival.
Overnight area: Cintsa.
Day 7A Wild Coast pause
Keep a day near Cintsa for the coast, with independent beach time or an appropriately arranged water activity considered according to conditions. Activity choice should reflect the actual coastal conditions.
Overnight area: Cintsa.
Day 8Toward Addo
Travel to the Addo area and introduce the wildlife chapter with a proposed drive, leaving the timing and extent subject to the road arrival. Further wildlife time may fit before tomorrow’s departure.
Overnight area: Addo Elephant National Park area.
Day 9From Addo to Tsitsikamma
Consider an early wildlife outing before continuing along the Garden Route toward Tsitsikamma, where forest and coast become the new focus.
Overnight area: Tsitsikamma National Park area.
Day 10Tsitsikamma at a chosen pace
Reserve a day for Tsitsikamma's forest and coastal setting, choosing walking or other activities only after reviewing access, conditions and personal preferences. A gentler coastal option can replace a longer trail.
Overnight area: Tsitsikamma National Park area.
Day 11Knysna and Oudtshoorn
Travel through the Knysna corridor toward Oudtshoorn, considering a separately scoped cave visit while keeping the changing inland landscape central to the day. Cave access should match the selected visit type.
Overnight area: Oudtshoorn.
Day 12Toward Cape Town
Continue toward Cape Town, with possible wildlife or wine-country interests discussed as optional stops rather than assuming every excursion fits the travel day. An extra stop should not force an impractical arrival.
Overnight area: Cape Town.
Day 13Cape Town and the coast
Use a full day around Cape Town for selected coastal and city interests, deciding whether a Boulders Beach visit belongs in the final proposal. Leave enough time to return from the coast.
Overnight area: Cape Town.
Day 14Finish in Cape Town
Finish the journey in Cape Town. Extend the city stay or arrange onward travel around the final services agreed in your proposal.
