Discover the journey
Follow Kilimanjaro's Machame approach on an eight-day journey with Moshi stays before and after the mountain. The camp sequence moves through Machame, Shira, Barranco and Barafu before a conditional summit attempt and descent toward the Mweka side. Walking, rest and decisions by qualified mountain professionals set the rhythm of the trek. The compact ascent profile deserves careful consideration: discuss acclimatization and suitability, including whether a longer route would be more appropriate, before choosing this itinerary. Permits, equipment, mountain support and emergency arrangements need to be agreed in detail. Reaching the summit is never guaranteed, and turning back may be the right decision.

Day-by-day itinerary
This is a proposed itinerary. Daily plans and overnight areas can be adjusted before booking; your written proposal will confirm the final arrangements.
Day 1Prepare in Moshi
Arrive in Moshi and leave time for a proper route and equipment discussion before the mountain stage begins the following morning. Equipment issues are easier to resolve before leaving town.
Overnight area: Moshi.
Day 2Machame approach
Begin the planned ascent from the Machame side, moving through the lower mountain environment toward the first designated overnight camp on the route.
Overnight area: Machame Camp.
Day 3Continue toward Shira
Continue uphill toward Shira Camp, with regular breaks woven into the walking day. Follow the pace and guidance of the qualified mountain team.
Overnight area: Shira Camp.
Day 4Toward Barranco
Continue toward Barranco Camp, paying close attention to conditions, terrain and the mountain team's direction. The day's progress and overnight location remain subject to professional judgment.
Overnight area: Barranco Camp.
Day 5Reach the Barafu stage
Continue toward Barafu, allowing the remaining time at camp for rest and preparation rather than treating this as an ordinary sightseeing day.
Overnight area: Barafu Camp.
Day 6A conditional summit attempt
Attempt the summit only if conditions and the qualified mountain team's assessment allow, then descend toward the selected Mweka-side camp. Turning back remains an appropriate decision whenever needed.
Overnight area: Mweka area camp.
Day 7Descend and return to Moshi
Complete the descent toward the Mweka exit and return to Moshi, leaving time to rest after the mountain section rather than scheduling another excursion.
Overnight area: Moshi.
Day 8Departure from Moshi
Finish in Moshi, with departure arrangements or an extra recovery night chosen around your trekking plans. Any onward journey or airport transfer will be specified in your quote.

Your personalized quote will set out the selected accommodations, transport, transfers, meals, guiding and activities. The itinerary describes places and experiences to consider; the written proposal defines the services included in your trip.

Planning this journey
- Ask qualified mountain professionals to review acclimatization, preparation and individual suitability, including the option of a longer route.
- Confirm permits, qualified guides and support, equipment, emergency communication and evacuation arrangements before booking.
- Weather and professional judgment may change camps, daily progress or the summit plan. A summit attempt is conditional and turning back must remain an option.
- Discuss how changes, additional nights or an early descent would affect the itinerary and costs.

No. Conditions and the qualified mountain team's assessment determine whether an attempt can proceed. Turning back may be necessary, and a longer route or different experience should be considered when reviewing suitability and acclimatization.
