Discover the journey
Discover Madagascar through its contrasting coast, highland towns and forest habitats. From Antananarivo, a proposed flight south leads to Tulear and the coastal base at Ifaty before the route turns inland toward Isalo. Fianarantsoa, Ranomafana, Ambositra and Antsirabe bring forest walks, town life and craft interests into the journey, followed by time around Andasibe and a return to the capital. Fourteen days allow several two-night stays, with room to enjoy places beyond the arrival afternoon. There are long road stages and an important domestic flight connection; the itinerary works best with an adaptable pace and space between outdoor activities.

Day-by-day itinerary
This is a proposed itinerary. Daily plans and overnight areas can be adjusted before booking; your written proposal will confirm the final arrangements.
Day 1Arrive in Antananarivo
Begin with a light introduction to the capital, leaving time to settle in and decide whether a market walk fits your arrival. A later arrival can simply remain restful.
Overnight area: Antananarivo.
Day 2Fly south toward Ifaty
Take the planned domestic flight toward Tulear, then consider a Spiny Forest visit before reaching the coastal base at Ifaty. Keep the flight connection flexible before scheduling the forest.
Overnight area: Ifaty.
Day 3A flexible coastal day
Keep a full day beside the coast, choosing between rest, a local walk and a separately arranged visit in the Tulear area. The coastal base remains the same tonight.
Overnight area: Ifaty.
Day 4From the coast to Isalo
Leave Ifaty through Tulear and continue inland toward Isalo, treating this primarily as a travel day with a modest sightseeing allowance. Save the longer park walk for tomorrow.
Overnight area: Isalo National Park.
Day 5Walk among Isalo landscapes
Explore a selected section of Isalo on foot, concentrating on the meeting of rocky formations, valleys and the park's living habitats. Choose walking distance before setting departure time.
Overnight area: Isalo National Park.
Day 6Anja and Fianarantsoa
Travel toward Fianarantsoa with Anja Community Reserve as a potential nature stop, then settle into a highland town for the evening. The reserve visit needs an appropriate local guide.
Overnight area: Fianarantsoa.
Day 7Highland streets and Ranomafana
Use the morning for Fianarantsoa's streets and surrounding countryside before continuing to the forested landscape around Ranomafana National Park. This separates town exploration from the following forest day.
Overnight area: Ranomafana.
Day 8A day for Ranomafana forest
Reserve the day for forest exploration around Ranomafana, with walking distance and any conservation visit chosen to suit the final program. Leave space between walks rather than assuming consecutive outings.
Overnight area: Ranomafana.
Day 9Craft traditions in Ambositra
Continue to Ambositra and make woodcraft the day's cultural interest, allowing time to look at the work rather than rushing onward. Any workshop stop needs a willing local host.
Overnight area: Ambositra.
Day 10From Ambositra to Antsirabe
Consider a silk-production visit in the highlands before reaching Antsirabe, where the evening can remain relaxed after another road journey. The silk visit and road timetable should work together.
Overnight area: Antsirabe.
Day 11Cross toward Andasibe
Travel east toward the Andasibe area and leave the balance of the afternoon open; the journey should take priority over extra visits. Forest activities are better saved for the dedicated day.
Overnight area: Andasibe National Park.
Day 12Andasibe by day and dusk
Set aside a day for Andasibe's forest habitats, discussing a daytime walk and a separate dusk outing if suitable access is available. Treat the dusk walk as a separate choice.
Overnight area: Andasibe National Park.
Day 13Return to Antananarivo
Return to the capital with time for a final local interest, such as chocolate-making, if an appropriate independent arrangement can be made. A capital overnight buffers the onward departure.
Overnight area: Antananarivo.
Day 14Departure from the capital
Finish the journey in Antananarivo, leaving onward travel or an additional night as separate choices once the domestic schedule is settled. The final transfer needs an agreed pickup point.
