Ait Benhaddou, Morocco

Discover the journey

Trace Morocco from Casablanca and Fes through inland valleys and desert landscapes to Marrakech. Historic neighborhoods give way to open country around Merzouga, the Todra Gorge corridor and the fortified settlement of Ait Benhaddou. Moulay Idriss and Volubilis add possible heritage stops to the northern chapter, while the mountain crossing provides a final contrast before Marrakech. Eight days create a varied journey, with some substantial travel between destinations. Shape the balance of city exploration, walking and desert time around your interests, and discuss whether a town stay, riad or desert overnight best suits the experience you have in mind.

Day-by-day itinerary

This is a proposed itinerary. Daily plans and overnight areas can be adjusted before booking; your written proposal will confirm the final arrangements.

Day 1Begin in Casablanca

Arrive in Casablanca and ease into the journey with time to settle in. A first local orientation can fit around your arrival, leaving the rest of the day unhurried.

Day 2Heritage stops toward Fes

Travel toward Fes with Moulay Idriss and Volubilis as possible heritage stops along the way. Give each visit time for context, balancing the stops with the onward drive.

Day 3Explore Fes

Spend the day exploring historic neighborhoods in Fes. Choose the balance of guided visits and independent time around your interests, with room to pause rather than hurry between sights.

Day 4Inland toward Merzouga

Cross inland landscapes toward Merzouga, watching the setting change as the route approaches the desert. Discuss a suitable desert overnight and any separately chosen activity before finalizing the day.

Day 5Todra Gorge and the valleys

Make the Todra Gorge valley the focus of the next stage. Select a suitable walk and leave time to enjoy the landscape before continuing along the circuit.

Day 6Ait Benhaddou

Explore the fortified settlement at Ait Benhaddou and the surrounding landscape at a considered pace. The final day plan will balance time on foot with the road journey.

Day 7Across the mountains to Marrakech

Continue across the mountains toward Marrakech. Let the journey set a comfortable pace, with a first city exploration if arrival time allows.

Day 8Finish in Marrakech

Finish the land journey in Marrakech, or discuss an independent extension if you would like more time in the city. Departure transfers and onward travel will follow your agreed arrangements.

A desert overnight is one possibility around Merzouga. Discuss camp facilities, transfers and any separate activity, including animal welfare considerations where relevant, before choosing that part of the trip.
