Discover the journey
Connect Nepal's valley cities and lower-country landscapes with the western valleys of Bhutan. Kathmandu introduces religious architecture and everyday city life before the seventeen-day journey continues to Chitwan and Pokhara. A return to Kathmandu leads into the Bhutan chapter, linking Thimphu, Punakha and Paro, then flying back to Nepal before departure. Multi-night stays allow time for cultural visits and quieter observation between mountain-road journeys. The program can include a Tiger's Nest walk for travelers whose abilities and interests suit the demands, with an alternative discussed for others. Flights, entry arrangements and the pace of the mountain sections need careful coordination.

Day-by-day itinerary
This proposed itinerary can be adjusted around your interests and travel dates. Visits, transport and overnight arrangements are confirmed in your written proposal before booking.
Day 1Arrive in Nepal
Arrive in Kathmandu and take time to settle into the valley city. A nearby walk can offer a first introduction if arrival timing permits, with the main cultural visits left until after a good rest.
Planned overnight: Kathmandu.
Day 2Sacred city settings
Explore selected Buddhist sites and surrounding neighborhoods in the Kathmandu Valley, considering Swayambhunath and Boudhanath where access suits. Steps and urban traffic shape the day. Allow time for observation between visits rather than treating sacred places as quick photo stops. Swayambhunath and Boudhanath provide the principal possible settings.
Planned overnight: Kathmandu.
Day 3Bhaktapur and the valley
Visit Bhaktapur and consider another Kathmandu Valley setting where access and road timing suit. Take a slower approach to streets and courtyards, with time between selected visits. Optional flightseeing is outside the proposed base scope.
Planned overnight: Kathmandu.
Day 4Toward Chitwan
Travel toward the Chitwan area by a planned flight and road connection if a suitable schedule exists. The day changes the setting from valley city to lower-country landscape. Keep any first outdoor outing light so arrival arrangements and rest remain the priority.
Planned overnight: Chitwan area.
Day 5A possible nature outing
Consider nature activities around Chitwan when park access and responsible local arrangements allow. Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed. Choose walking or vehicle-based outings around your needs, balancing outdoor time with rest at the base.
Planned overnight: Chitwan area.
Day 6Onward to Pokhara
Continue toward Pokhara, allowing a realistic road-travel period and breaks. The journey is a substantial part of the day rather than a quick transfer. Keep the arrival evening relaxed so the following day can focus on the lakeside and mountain setting.
Planned overnight: Pokhara.
Day 7Lakeside and mountain outlooks
Spend a full day around Pokhara, selecting lake and viewpoint interests according to conditions. Mountain visibility cannot be promised. The day can be adjusted around walking preferences and weather, with no need to change accommodation before returning to the same base.
Planned overnight: Pokhara.
Day 8Return to Kathmandu
Take a planned flight back to Kathmandu and consider a selected visit in the Patan area if timing allows. This overnight helps coordinate the next country's travel. Leave flexibility around the domestic connection rather than attaching an extensive valley circuit to arrival.
Planned overnight: Kathmandu.
Day 9Fly to Bhutan and enter the valleys
Travel toward Paro by a planned flight, completing the verified entry arrangements before continuing to Thimphu. Mountain-airport schedules need particular care. Keep the first Bhutan day focused on arrival and settling into the valley rather than an immediate demanding sightseeing program.
Planned overnight: Thimphu.
Day 10Explore Thimphu
Explore selected public and cultural settings in Thimphu, with time for the town between larger visits. Choose a manageable sequence around appropriate visitor access so the day leaves room for context and observation.
Planned overnight: Thimphu.
Day 11Culture at a quieter pace
Spend another day in the Thimphu area, with the Memorial Chorten and a viewpoint among the possible interests. Leave independent time and space to rest before the next valley-to-valley road journey.
Planned overnight: Thimphu.
Day 12Across the mountains to Punakha
Travel toward Punakha, allowing time for mountain roads and selected stops around the Lobesa area. A principal dzong visit can be considered if access permits. Keep the day's walking proportionate to the transfer so arrival remains comfortable rather than rushed.
Planned overnight: Punakha.
Day 13Valley sites en route to Paro
Continue toward Paro with a selected cultural or village stop along the way, subject to appropriate arrangements. The road journey and any temple access need their own allowance. Arrive with enough time to settle before tomorrow's optional longer walking day.
Planned overnight: Paro.
Day 14Tiger's Nest or a gentler alternative
Consider the Tiger's Nest excursion only after discussing walking demands, altitude, access and individual suitability. The route involves a substantial uphill outing and needs an alternative for anyone who does not participate. The journey makes no assurance of personal fitness or medical suitability.
Planned overnight: Paro.
Day 15Paro's museums and temple settings
Use the final full Bhutan day for selected museum, dzong or temple interests around Paro. Confirm openings and visitor access in advance. The program leaves space for a quieter pace after the walking day, without requiring every cultural stop to be included. The National Museum and Rinpung Dzong area offer possible cultural interests.
Planned overnight: Paro.
Day 16Fly back to Nepal
Plan to fly back to Kathmandu and leave the rest of the day flexible. This overnight separates the Bhutan section from the final international departure, with contingency time discussed around the selected mountain-airport schedules.
Planned overnight: Kathmandu.
Day 17Depart Nepal
End in Kathmandu and keep the day for onward travel. Confirmed flight schedules may call for an additional night or a revised connection, so leave room to discuss the most practical departure plan.
