Rice terraces and palms in northern Ubud, Bali, Indonesia

Discover the journey

Explore Java's urban and temple landscapes before continuing to Bali's inland villages and coast. The fourteen-day route begins in Jakarta, moves to Surakarta and Yogyakarta, then reaches Ubud and Sanur by air. Batik and palace traditions, the Borobudur area, rice-growing landscapes and temple precincts bring variety to the journey. Multi-night stays make space for considered visits and personal time, with fewer hotel changes between the larger travel days. Around Ubud, optional craft, music or cooking experiences can follow your interests. A final coastal day near Sanur gives room to slow down before departure or discuss a longer stay.

Journey highlights

  • Surakarta batik and palace traditions
  • Borobudur and Prambanan areas
  • Yogyakarta’s Kota Gede
  • Ubud and Bali’s agricultural landscapes

Your route

14 days from arrival to departure, with 13 planned nights. Allow additional time for international travel.

Day-by-day itinerary

This proposed itinerary can be adjusted around your interests and travel dates. Visits, transport and overnight arrangements are confirmed in your written proposal before booking.

Day 1Arrive in Jakarta

Arrive in Jakarta and settle into the first city base. A short neighborhood outing can fit around your arrival and the traffic, with the broader city introduction left for tomorrow.

Planned overnight: Jakarta.

Day 2Old and contemporary Jakarta

Explore selected parts of old and modern Jakarta, balancing historic streets with a wider view of the capital. Traffic can shape the day as much as distance. Keep the route geographically sensible and leave time between the principal stops for breaks.

Planned overnight: Jakarta.

Day 3Fly to central Java

Take a planned internal flight toward Surakarta, then begin with its batik heritage if timing permits. The priority is a comfortable arrival, with a second night giving the region more space tomorrow. The Danar Hadi collection provides a possible introduction to batik.

Planned overnight: Surakarta.

Day 4Temple slopes and tea landscapes

Explore the Sukuh and Kemuning area from Surakarta, combining hill scenery with selected cultural sites. Choose walks and any waterfall visit around conditions and your preferred activity level, with a less demanding alternative if needed.

Planned overnight: Surakarta.

Day 5Palace traditions and onward temples

Continue toward Yogyakarta, considering Surakarta's palace heritage before the transfer and a selected temple visit afterward. The order depends on opening hours and road conditions. Avoid treating both cities as a single quick stop when the journey includes luggage and hotel arrangements. Mangkunegaran and the Prambanan area are possible cultural anchors.

Planned overnight: Yogyakarta.

Day 6Borobudur and surrounding countryside

Spend the day around Borobudur, pairing the principal monument setting with a selected village or smaller temple where appropriate access allows. Leave time to appreciate the wider landscape, with monument-entry arrangements discussed before booking.

Planned overnight: Yogyakarta.

Day 7Crafts and music in the city

Explore another side of Yogyakarta through the Kota Gede area and local creative traditions. A music or craft session may be arranged separately if it suits your interests. Keep some independent time for markets or cafes instead of filling every hour with activities.

Planned overnight: Yogyakarta.

Day 8Fly to Bali

Travel from Yogyakarta toward Bali by a planned flight and continue inland to Ubud. This day links two very different settings, so allow time for the airport and road journey. A relaxed arrival provides a better introduction than an immediate long temple circuit.

Planned overnight: Ubud.

Day 9Agricultural landscapes and lake temples

Consider a day among Jatiluwih's rice landscapes and the Ulun Danu area. Choose a manageable route around road timing and weather, leaving room to appreciate the inland scenery before returning to Ubud.

Planned overnight: Ubud.

Day 10Village culture and optional cooking

Explore the Ubud area through a selected village or cultural visit. A cooking session can be considered separately, with dietary needs discussed in advance. Keep independent time in the day, and choose any wildlife-related stop according to responsible visitor practice.

Planned overnight: Ubud.

Day 11A day among temple precincts

Spend time among a selected group of Bali's older temple precincts, with respectful dress and appropriate visitor access. Leave room between the main visits for surrounding villages and the road journey back, rather than trying to cover the whole island.

Planned overnight: Ubud.

Day 12Toward the coast via Tanah Lot

Move toward Sanur, with Tanah Lot or another suitable coastal stop considered along the way. A cultural performance may be discussed if it fits. Keep the day flexible because traffic, ceremony schedules and weather can affect the timing of visits.

Planned overnight: Sanur.

Day 13A final coastal day

Use the final full day for the coast and personal interests, with a possible market outing rather than a fixed series of attractions. This open space helps balance the preceding travel.

Planned overnight: Sanur.

Day 14Depart from Bali

Finish in Bali and leave enough time for the airport journey. A longer seaside stay can be discussed as an extension, with its accommodation and transport arranged around your wider plans.

Services and arrangements

Accommodation and transport

The plan uses internal flights from Jakarta toward Surakarta and from Yogyakarta to Bali. Temple access, including Borobudur arrangements, must fit your dates. Bali's traffic can make short distances slow, so road timing and walking needs matter when choosing daily visits.
