Limestone karsts rising from the waters of Halong Bay, Vietnam

Discover the journey

Travel from Hanoi's neighborhoods into the valley landscapes of Mai Chau, onward to Ninh Binh and Halong Bay, then south through Hoi An to Ho Chi Minh City. This thirteen-day journey brings together city life, open countryside and waterside scenery, with regional food as a thread to explore along the way. A possible boat overnight adds a different perspective on Halong Bay. Hoi An provides time for cultural interests and a visit toward My Son, while the final city stay leaves room for the Mekong Delta and a flexible day of your own. Internal travel days are spaced between longer opportunities to explore.

  • Neighborhood and cultural exploration in Hanoi and Hoi An.

Day-by-day itinerary

This proposed itinerary can be adjusted around your interests and travel dates. Visits, transport and overnight arrangements are confirmed in your written proposal before booking.

Day 1Begin in Hanoi

Arrive in Hanoi and take time to settle in. Keep the first day gentle, with an optional neighborhood walk if your arrival leaves enough time and energy. The city's fuller exploration begins tomorrow.

Day 2Hanoi neighborhoods and cultural life

Explore Hanoi through its neighborhoods and cultural interests, combining selected visits with time to notice everyday street life. Choose a manageable walking route and leave room to pause, rather than filling the day with back-to-back stops.

Day 3Toward the Mai Chau valley

Travel toward Mai Chau as the setting changes from the city to a valley landscape. Keep the road day comfortably paced, with a light arrival and time to take in the surroundings of the next base.

Day 4A day in the valley

Spend an unhurried day in Mai Chau, with walks and local visits selected around your interests and preferred activity level. Leave space between outings to enjoy the valley setting instead of treating it as a quick stop between cities.

Day 5Ninh Binh landscapes

Continue toward Ninh Binh, making its landscapes the focus of the day. A carefully chosen outing can give the place time of its own before the journey continues toward the coast. Specific water activities can be considered when shaping the plan.

Day 6A possible Halong Bay overnight

Travel toward Halong Bay for a possible boat overnight, taking time for embarkation and the waterside scenery. Discuss the vessel, cabin, boarding conditions and seasonal alternatives before choosing this part of the journey.

Day 7Via Da Nang to Hoi An

Continue via Da Nang toward Hoi An. Allow the day for the change of region, leaving the arrival relaxed so tomorrow can focus on exploring. The internal connection and onward road transfer will shape the day's timing.

Day 8Hoi An and regional food

Explore Hoi An with time for its cultural setting and regional food interests. A tasting or other food experience can be discussed alongside independent meals, allowing the day's balance to reflect your preferences.

Day 9A visit toward My Son

Set aside time for a visit toward the My Son area, giving the cultural setting a separate day rather than fitting it between longer transfers. Choose the pace and time on site around your interests, with room for breaks.

Day 10On to Ho Chi Minh City

Travel to Ho Chi Minh City and settle into the final city base. Keep the rest of the day flexible around the internal connection, with a short local introduction if timing allows.

Day 11A Mekong Delta day

Consider a day in the Mekong Delta for a contrast to the city stay. The places visited and the balance of road, water and community interests can be chosen during planning, with suitable local arrangements and time to return without rushing.

Day 12Ho Chi Minh City at your pace

Keep a flexible day in Ho Chi Minh City for the interests you most want to follow. Spend more time exploring independently, revisit a favorite area or discuss an additional cultural visit without filling every hour.

Day 13Depart from Ho Chi Minh City

Finish the journey in Ho Chi Minh City, keeping enough time for onward travel. An additional city night or a separate extension can be discussed if you would like to explore further.
