Discover the journey
Connect Tokyo's gardens, markets and temple streets with central Japan's mountain towns, then finish among Kyoto's cultural neighborhoods. This eleven-day journey includes a possible day in the Hakone landscape, rail travel toward Kanazawa and Kaga, and a road section through Shirakawa-go to Takayama. The settings change from metropolitan streets to village architecture and a smaller mountain-town scale before Kyoto becomes the final base. There is time for Nijo Castle's surroundings, Nishiki Market, western Kyoto's gardens and a possible excursion to Nara. Several nights in the main cities help balance the transfers and leave room for personal interests between visits.

Day-by-day itinerary
This proposed itinerary can be adjusted around your interests and travel dates. Visits, transport and overnight arrangements are confirmed in your written proposal before booking.
Day 1Arrive in Tokyo
Arrive in Tokyo and begin with the neighborhood around your stay. A light orientation can help you find your bearings and choose somewhere to eat, leaving the city's larger visits for after a good rest.
Planned overnight: Tokyo.
Day 2Gardens, markets and shrine paths
Explore contrasting parts of Tokyo through a garden setting, the Tsukiji area and the wooded approach to Meiji Shrine. Rather than rushing across the city repeatedly, organize the stops into a sensible transport sequence. Leave room to discover food independently between the principal visits.
Planned overnight: Tokyo.
Day 3Asakusa and creative traditions
Spend time around Asakusa and its temple streets, then consider the collections in the Ueno museum area. A separately arranged craft or calligraphy session could add a practical element. Balance interior visits with short breaks so the day remains engaging rather than a museum marathon.
Planned overnight: Tokyo.
Day 4A day toward Hakone
Travel out of Tokyo toward the Hakone landscape, with lake and mountain viewpoints considered according to weather and transport operation. The excursion returns to the same city base. Clear views of Mount Fuji are a possibility, never an itinerary promise or a reason to overpack the day.
Planned overnight: Tokyo.
Day 5Rail west to gardens and hot-spring country
Travel by rail toward Kanazawa and spend time in its gardens before continuing to Kaga. The move introduces a different setting after Tokyo. A traditional-inn stay can be considered, with room, bathing and luggage arrangements discussed in advance.
Planned overnight: Kaga.
Day 6Thatched villages and mountain streets
Continue through Shirakawa-go toward Takayama, allowing time for village streets and the surrounding mountain landscape. The smaller scale brings a change of pace after Tokyo, with the walking route chosen around seasonal conditions and access.
Planned overnight: Takayama.
Day 7Takayama's morning and onward travel
Spend the morning with Takayama's market and preserved streets before traveling onward to Kyoto. Settle into the next base without rushing to add a major visit; a brief local walk can offer a first introduction if time allows.
Planned overnight: Kyoto.
Day 8Kyoto's castle and market districts
Explore Kyoto through the Nijo Castle area and the food streets around Nishiki Market. A tea or meditation experience may be discussed as a separate arrangement. Group the day's visits geographically and leave quiet time between them, particularly when popular areas are busy.
Planned overnight: Kyoto.
Day 9Western Kyoto gardens and bamboo
Devote the day to western Kyoto, pairing Arashiyama's temple landscape and bamboo paths with another selected garden or pavilion. Early or late timing may make walking more pleasant, subject to access. The program favors fewer considered visits over repeated crossings of the city.
Planned overnight: Kyoto.
Day 10Nara from a Kyoto base
Consider a day in Nara for its temple precincts and park setting before returning to Kyoto. Paths and steps can make the walking substantial, so choose a manageable route. Observe the park's wildlife respectfully and leave time to pause between visits.
Planned overnight: Kyoto.
Day 11Onward from Kyoto
Finish in Kyoto, allowing adequate time for your onward rail or airport journey. The most practical departure arrangement depends on your wider plans; an extra Kyoto night or a separate stay elsewhere in Japan can be discussed.
