Mountain landscape in Yosemite National Park, California, United States

Discover the journey

Connect Monterey's coast with Yosemite, Lake Tahoe and Napa Valley before finishing in San Francisco. This eight-day northern California journey uses Modesto as a base for a focused Yosemite outing, then moves to Sacramento before the final transfer through wine country. A Monterey day leaves time for the waterfront and optional aquarium visit, while Lake Tahoe offers a different landscape later in the route. Several outings involve substantial driving, especially Yosemite from Modesto, so a selective approach to stops is essential. Park entry, mountain road conditions and any lake boat trip or winery visit will shape the final plan.
