Discover the journey
Travel from San Jose to the forests of Arenal and Monteverde, then finish on the Pacific coast in Guanacaste. Nine days allow separate stays in each setting, with a possible Cano Negro outing from the Arenal area and time to choose forest walks around Monteverde. A final open coastal day creates a slower finish after the inland travel. Boat connections, hanging bridges and farm visits are optional possibilities to consider according to conditions and your interests. Wildlife sightings are never assured. The final departure airport will be chosen around the coastal base; a return to San Jose is outside this route.

Day-by-day itinerary
This is a proposed itinerary that can be adjusted around your interests. Final dates, visits and arrangements will be agreed before booking.
Day 1Begin in San Jose
Arrive in San Jose and settle into the opening base. A short local orientation can introduce the area if arrival timing allows, leaving a relaxed first evening.
Planned overnight: San Jose.
Day 2Toward Arenal
Travel toward Arenal, with a possible coffee-related stop along the way. Choose that addition around your interests and the road journey so there is time to settle into the next base.
Planned overnight: Arenal area.
Day 3A Cano Negro possibility
Consider a Cano Negro outing from Arenal, with a boat journey as one possible way to experience the setting. Road timing, services and conditions will shape the day; wildlife sightings are never assured.
Planned overnight: Arenal area.
Day 4A day around Arenal
Explore around Arenal with a suitable nature or local culture interest. A farm visit or walk can be chosen around access and your preferred activity level, leaving time between outings.
Planned overnight: Arenal area.
Day 5Continue to Monteverde
Continue toward Monteverde, with a Lake Arenal boat connection as an option if services and conditions support it. Coordinate the road and boat portions together, then keep the arrival afternoon modest.
Planned overnight: Monteverde area.
Day 6Monteverde by walking preference
Choose a Monteverde forest experience suited to your interests and walking preferences. Hanging bridges and other specialist activities are separate options; a shorter walk can leave more time to observe the surroundings.
Planned overnight: Monteverde area.
Day 7Toward the Pacific coast
Travel to the Guanacaste coast and settle into the final base. The location will reflect your preferred balance of beach access, local connections and departure plans, with a flexible first coastal afternoon.

Day 8An open coastal day
Keep a full coastal day open for rest or a separately selected local activity. Water-based plans depend on conditions and suitable access, while quiet time at the base remains an equally valid choice.

Complete the journey from the Guanacaste area. The departure airport and transfer will be planned around the coastal base; a return to San Jose would require additional time and separate arrangements.
