Gilded roof details at the Palace of Versailles, France

Discover the journey

Trace a French route from Versailles through Normandy and Brittany to the Loire Valley, then finish in Paris. Eleven days allow distinct time for the larger themes: Normandy remembrance, Bayeux, Saint-Malo, Mont Saint-Michel and Loire towns and chateaux. Rouen and Chinon provide town perspectives between regional stays, while a final Paris day can follow your own interests. This journey is best approached with a selective visit list, especially on memorial and transfer days. Steps and tidal access at Mont Saint-Michel also deserve careful planning. Choose the places you want to understand in depth and let the rest of the route breathe around them.

Day-by-day itinerary

This is a proposed itinerary that can be adjusted around your interests. Final dates, visits and arrangements will be agreed before booking.

Day 1Begin near Versailles

Begin near Versailles and settle into the first base. Keep the arrival day open for rest or a short local orientation before the larger visits begin.

Planned overnight: Versailles.

Day 2Versailles in detail

Give Versailles a full day, with the palace and gardens as the main interests to consider. Choose a visit scope suited to your walking pace, leaving room for independent town time if you prefer a shorter estate visit.

Planned overnight: Versailles.

Day 3Rouen and the road to Caen

Travel through Rouen toward Caen. A focused town visit provides a contrast between regional bases, while the remaining drive leaves time to settle in.

Planned overnight: Caen.

Day 4Normandy remembrance

Visit selected Normandy landing and memorial sites from Caen, with the cemetery and Arromanches among the interests to discuss. Allow time for reflection and breaks, choosing any museum visit or guiding separately.

Planned overnight: Caen.

Day 5Bayeux and Saint-Malo

Spend time in Bayeux before continuing toward Saint-Malo. The day combines a focused cultural interest with a change of base, so keep the final stop list manageable.

Planned overnight: Saint-Malo.

Day 6Mont Saint-Michel

Consider a Mont Saint-Michel visit from Saint-Malo, with the approach, shuttles, tides and steep sections shaping the route. Remaining in the lower village or surrounding area offers an alternative if you prefer less demanding walking.

Planned overnight: Saint-Malo.

Day 7Chinon and the Loire

Travel toward Chinon and the Loire Valley. Let a smaller town stop introduce the region, with time to settle into the next overnight base.

Planned overnight: Loire Valley base.

Day 8Châteaux and Loire towns

Consider Chenonceau as the principal chateau visit, followed by selected time in Amboise or Tours. Give one town a useful stay rather than rush through both, with independent time around the larger interior visit.

Planned overnight: Loire Valley base.

Day 9Return to Paris

Return to Paris and settle into the final city base. A Seine outing can be considered separately if it fits the arrival schedule, or the remaining time can stay open for a local walk.

Planned overnight: Paris.

Day 10A Paris day to shape

Spend a full day in Paris, choosing Montmartre or the central landmarks as a possible focus. A museum can be added around your priorities, with time left to enjoy the city outside reservation windows.

Planned overnight: Paris.

Day 11Depart from Paris

Complete the route in Paris and allow time for onward travel. Additional city nights can be arranged separately if you would like to stay longer.
