Edinburgh skyline and monuments, Scotland, United Kingdom

Discover the journey

Connect Edinburgh, York, Chester and London, with time for Wales and Stratford-upon-Avon along the way. This nine-day journey brings together three different national settings without treating every stop as an overnight move. A proposed rail journey links Edinburgh and York, followed by a Chester stay that makes room for Conwy and Llangollen as a day outing. Stratford-upon-Avon adds a smaller town pause before London, where a full day remains open to your interests. The route begins in Scotland and ends in England, so arrival and departure plans can reflect the journey rather than retracing it.

Day-by-day itinerary

This is a proposed itinerary that can be adjusted around your interests. Final dates, visits and arrangements will be agreed before booking.

Day 1Arrive in Edinburgh

Arrive in Edinburgh and settle into the opening city base. Keep the day light, with time for rest or a nearby walk if your arrival allows.

Planned overnight: Edinburgh.

Day 2Edinburgh's historic setting

Compare Edinburgh's older streets with its later city layout, using the Royal Mile as a possible main focus. A castle visit can be considered separately, with walking distances suited to your pace and independent time after the principal outing.

Planned overnight: Edinburgh.

Day 3South to York

Travel south to York on the proposed rail connection. Allow time to settle in and orient yourself before considering a Minster visit, keeping the day's pace comfortable around the journey.

Planned overnight: York.

Day 4York to Chester

Travel to Chester and take a first walk around the central streets. A cathedral visit or river outing is an optional addition if arrival timing leaves enough room.

Planned overnight: Chester.

Day 5A Welsh outing

Explore part of Wales from Chester, with Conwy and Llangollen as the main stops. Choose how to balance a castle interest with town time, then return to the same overnight base.

Planned overnight: Chester.

Day 6Stratford-upon-Avon

Continue through the English countryside to Stratford-upon-Avon. Literary interests can shape the visit, with a particular house admission or performance considered separately from time in the town's streets and public spaces.

Planned overnight: Stratford-upon-Avon.

Day 7Into London

Travel into London and settle before a compact orientation. Westminster or Covent Garden may provide a starting area, depending on the location of your stay and arrival timing.

Planned overnight: London.

Day 8London on your terms

Spend a full London day around a neighborhood and one principal interest. A Windsor excursion is an optional alternative, with its transport and admission needs weighed against more time in the capital.

Planned overnight: London.

Day 9Finish in London

Complete the journey in London and allow time for your onward connection. Extra city days can be added as a separately arranged extension.

Questions about this journey

Will the journey include overnight stays in Wales?

The itinerary proposes Conwy and Llangollen as a day outing from Chester. The overnight route continues through England rather than adding a Welsh base.

Can I choose dates and request Group or Private travel?

Share a preferred date or a flexible travel period, and tell us whether you prefer Group or Private travel. Your travel specialist will review the options and confirm a workable program before booking.
